Baptism and Confirmation at Mission in Santiago

By Pastor Walter Ries Jr.

At our Santiago mission, in the “Pueblo Nuevo” neighborhood, we celebrated the baptism of Kissayris’ brother and the confirmation of her mother on June 3rd. Kissayris is the principal of our Concordia Lutheran School in Palmar Arriba. That morning we also enjoyed a visit from a group from Saint Michael’s Lutheran Church in Fort Myers, Florida. The group was in town for a servant event week of painting and school repairs.
The list of weekly activities for the Santiago mission has been growing over the past months. Weekly Bible studies are now held in the cafeteria of the local department store. A new weekly English conversation club called “Branch Out” began mid-June, led by James and Christel Neuendorf, with assistance by Katie Lane. The club has begun to open doors in the community, and spread the word of where our mission is located. We praise God for the contacts we have begun to make in the Pueblo Nuevo community of Santiago, and pray for the continued growth of this mission.
